Diu Attraction

In Diu, there are plenty of places for tourist within 15-20 Km inside the Diu.

1. Jetty and Bazaar
• Its most happening area of Diu
• There are breakfast and parking facilities available on the jetty area. 
• Diu Jetty is near the Bus stand after cross the bridge. 
• From Jetty one can enjoy the boating till Fortress of Panikotha. 
• Jetty has nice view of bridge and sea. 
• Near the Jetty there is bazaar which offers varieties of items including the custom items.
2. Panikotha - 
• Fortress of Panikota is a magnificent stone structure in the sea, built right at the mouth of the creek.
• This fortress can be reached only by a canoe or a motor launch. 
• This fortress has a light house and small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Sea. 
• The fortress offers a very beautiful view whether seen from the jetty, from the Fort, from the village of Ghoghla or from Diu.
• Legend has it that this ship shape structure was one connected with land by an under sea tunnel.
• You can see this monument in famous bollywood movie "QAYAMAT".
3. Fort and Light house
• The fort is a large and impressive structure on the coast of the Diu island.
•  It commands a magnificent view of the sea. 
• It skirts the sea on three sides. 
• The outer wall of the fort was built along the coast line. 
• The inner wall had bastions on which guns were mounted. 
• A double moat (outer one is a tidal moat) between the outer and inner walls provided security to the fort. 
• The moat that separates the fortifications from the castle has been cut through sand stone rocks. 
• A jetty built then on the northwestern side is still in use. 
• The fort was provided with three entry gates. 
• A bastion built earlier by the Sultan in the deep water channel, next to the fort walls, was further strengthened by the Portuguese.
• In the main entry gate, there are five large windows with stone galleries on the main front wall. 
• From the fort, a glittering view of the Panikotha fort located in the sea, off the coast opposite to Diu Fort, could be seen in the evenings. 
• There are several canons (some of them made of bronze appear well preserved) still seen at the top of the Diu fort. 
• Also seen are collection of iron shells scattered around in the fort area. 
• The fort is approached from a permanent bridge. 
• The entrance gateway to the fort has an inscription in Portuguese. 
• The bastion at the gate is named St. George.
• A large light house is also located at one end of the fort. 
• Even now the ruins of the walls, gateways, arches, ramps, bastions of the fort provide an impressive view of the extent of military defenses that the fort provided in the past. 
• Within the fort, well laid out gardens have paths bordered by old canons.
4. St.Paul's Church 
• St Paul’s Church in Diu is around 400 year old church. Constructed in 1691.
• It is dedicated to our Lady of Immaculate Conception.
• The most famous of the religious places is St Paul’s Church in Diu. 
• St Paul’s Church is said to be the only active church in the region till date. 
• Boasting a Gothic architectural style, this church is the biggest Portuguese Catholic church on the island. 
• Its richly done wood carving which has earned a special recognition among the most elaborate Portuguese churches is the real feast for eyes. 
• On a close look at this church you will find that it has resemblance with Bom Jesus Church at Goa on the virtue of architectural patterns.
5. Ghoghla beach & Turtle Breeding Site
• The depth of the sea shore is near to 1.5 to 2 mt tidal amplitude and hence it serve good prospect for seaweed cultivation. The Ghoghla beach has this kind of sea shore.
• The Ghoghla Beach is a sandy beach. A tourist complex nearby provides all basic amenities to tourists. 
• It is the largest and gentlest beach of Diu.
• Its clean and silent beach of the Diu compare to Nagoa beach. 
• You can enjoy the sand and sea beauty here only in Diu.
• The Golden sand beach undulates into the horizon while the Arabian Sea laps away at the edge as though imploring the sands to let it find its own peach. 
• You can do swimming, sunbathing, parasailing, surfing etc.
